Madison Bureau of Investigations is organized into specialized divisions, each responsible for a distinct part of the Bureau's mission.

Criminal Investigation Division

The Criminal Investigations Division is one of the three bodies within the bureau, and the initial division that all Special Agents are enrolled into. The Criminal Investigation Division investigates major crimes, procures warrants for violent offenders, interdicts illicit items, and supports law enforcement in conjunction with the Department of Justice.
Violent Crime Section
The Violent Crime Section is the first section under the Criminal Investigation Division, and is responsible for the bulk of investigative obligations the Madison Bureau of Investigation is responsible for. The Violent Crime Section investigates all highly prolific cases, ranging from domestic terrorism, murder, assassinations, illicit item trafficking, and shootings.
Forensic Crime Section
The Forensic Crime Section is the second section under the Criminal Investigation Division. The Forensic Crime Section provides investigative report findings on recovered physical evidence found in shootings. Special Agents assigned are experts in forensic investigation. The Forensic Crime Section coordinates with the Violent Crime Section to investigate murder, illicit item trafficking, and shootings with forensic items, and establishes detailed reports in the Mobile Database.

The Criminal Intelligence Unit is the second of the three bodies within the bureau. The Criminal Intelligence Unit is tasked with gathering intelligence, dismantling organized crime, investigating government corruption, and conducting counterintelligence. Special Agents of the Criminal Intelligence Unit are the most experienced, and case agents the Bureau has to offer.
Gang Intelligence
The Gang Intelligence is the first sections under the Criminal Intelligence Unit that is responsible for obtaining intelligence on organized crime, coordinating with the Safe Street Task Force (SSTF), and dismantling organized crime within the state.
Special Intelligence
The Special Intelligence unit is the second section under the Criminal Intelligence Unit that is responsible for counterintelligence, government corruption, and other assignments given by the Director's office.
Regional Enforcement & Apprehension Program
Regional Enforcement & Apprehension Program
The Regional Enforcement and Apprehension Program is the bureau's tactical element, responsible for executing and apprehending fugitives, providing tactical support, and coordinating with bureau investigative entities.
